I-405 Preservation Project
Portland, OR
This paving and rehabilitation project encompassed 2.2 miles of Interstate 405, from the Fremont Bridge to the Marquam Bridge, through the heart of Portland, Oregon. ODOT commissioned this project because of severe rutting in all lanes, causing safety hazards on one of the busiest sections of freeway in the Portland metro area. Constructed mostly at night and with four weekend freeway closures, the rutted pavement was filled to surface grade and then repaved, with areas under the overpasses being ground and repaved to maintain federal clearance standards.
